Oh my god!

I'm blogging! I thought blogs were for self-indulgent slackers until I read some good ones. Now I'm jumping on the bandwagon. I wish I had a champagne bottle to crack over the stern. Later I will be posting some links to pics… shit now I am thinking I will have to page map this blog! AUUUGH! I love it.

re the ethereal theme. in a way, interestingly, jim's blog makes it more clear to me how organized religion is an attempt to place the ethereal into the tangible world through political action (and that always includes the almighty dollar).

what writers or artists do you think capture the ethereal? for me i think that's why i have always loved madeleine l'engle's books - her themes were covertly spiritual, some even say catholic (tho i'm not).

I haven't read L'Engle. I guess I have to add it to my list. As far as writers that capture this… I think has got to be poets. I was thinking in particular about The Tale of Genji, a medieval Japanese court story… and The Wandering Ghost is the title of a Lafcadio Hearn biography. I haven't read his books but there were exerpts and I think he attempts to capture something very Japanese, as a Westerner he is lauded by other Westerners as a guide to the mysterious secrets of the East. To Japanese, I think he is considered an ignorant white ape.

Lafcadio - there's a great baby name. I'll trade you A Wrinkle In Time for The Tale of Genji.

I've been reading the Serpent and the Rainbow, another one of those thrillers whose big epiphany is that science and religion are kind of the same thing, a la Jim's favorite book, The DaVinci Code. I do think we Westerners enjoy hearing tales of our compatriots adventuring in the Far East etc. Do these genres thrive in other cultures or just in the colonial ones? And are there any female authors in the genre?

Aren't we all ignorant apes, regardless of color?

I think Pearl Buck (Pulitzer Prize winning woman!)was the pioneering white ape to reach into the far east mystery. I have not read her yet, but she has been on my backburner list for YEARS. That is pathetic, I will read her ASAP.

[somewhere i have never travelled]
--e.e. cummings

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be to close me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

The sixth is by getting a list of subscribers that a single can refer to each and every so usually, because they're individuals which would prove to be useful assets for the marketer concerned. The use of autoresponders and personalized newsletters is 1 way of preserving track of them all, and holding on to them by letting them know about new items and providers is definitely an important activity that need to be carried out through the affiliate marketer concerned.
